What is a Heavy-Duty Stapler?

If binding larger documents and thicker stacks of paper is a constant day-to-day aspect of your workplace, you’ll want a heavy-duty stapler. As the name suggests, these staplers can handle more demanding document binding jobs. They often have a capacity of being able to staple 100+ sheets with ease, but this can of course depend on the specific heavy-duty stapler and its design.

Heavy-duty staplers typically utilise reinforced frames and extended handles that allow the user to apply greater force with less effort, which makes binding multiple larger documents throughout the course of a day less likely to cause hand fatigue.

Can a Stapler be Used with Different Staple Sizes for Various Paper Types?

Many staplers are designed to cater to multiple staple sizes, which is great when you want flexibility. Staplers stocked at Office Choice include models that accommodate common staple sizes such as 24/6, 26/6, and larger gauges for multi-page documents. With staple sizes, the first number is known as the wire gauge (thickness); the lower the number, the thicker the wire. The second number denotes, in millimetres, how long the legs of the staple are. So, a staple 24/6 staple has 6-millimetre legs.

What Should I Do if My Stapler Keeps Jamming?

If you have issues where your stapler is frequently jamming, it’s often due to either a) the wrong staple size being used, or b) you’re trying to staple too many sheets at once. To fix a jam, carefully open the stapler and remove any misaligned staples. Double-check to ensure you’re using the correct staple size and that they’re graded for binding the number of sheets of paper you need to. You’ll also need to ensure the strip of staples is loaded and aligned correctly.

Are There Staplers That Can Staple a Large Number of Sheets at Once?

Yes, there are staplers specifically engineered for high-capacity use that are able to bind large document stacks in a single press. The most common type are heavy-duty staplers, which we touched on before. Depending on the model, they can staple hundreds of sheets in one go. 

Similarly, many electric staplers are designed for high-output work. While they usually can’t staple massive document stacks (100+ sheets) the way heavy-duty ones can, they’re still able to staple sizeable stacks (usually up to around 80 sheets) in one go. And because they’re electric, they’re great for binding these stacks in quick succession.

These types of staplers (both heavy-duty and electric) are commonly used in offices that prepare extensive reports, manuals, or presentations, where efficiency and security are priorities.
